The Dunes, established in 1948,
is
considered the areas premier Country
Club. The club was designed and built
on
land owned by Myrtle Beach Farms
through
the vision and efforts of George
W. "Buster" Bryan. Bryan gathered a
group of Myrtle Beach's leading
citizens
to form a corporation and build the
golf
course. The group decided to consult
the
famous golf course architect Robert
Trent Jones, who worked with Bobby
Jones
to build Peachtree G.C. in Atlanta and
remodeled the 11th and 16th holes at
Augusta National G.C. The Dunes Golf
and
Beach Club was built on 270 acres of
land that Trent Jones described as "a
lovely piece of land studded with live
oaks where the Singleton Swash empties
into the Atlantic Ocean." The golf
course is rich in history and has
played
host to six SENIOR Tour Championships,
a
Women's US Open and the finals of PGA
Tour Qualifying School. Dunes Club
Champions include, Ben Crenshaw, Hale
Irwin, Jay Sigel, Gil Morgan, Jim
Colbert, Gary McCord and Raymond Floyd.
The Dunes offers a classic Club
experience with all the Southern charm,
elegance and style associated with the
finest clubs in the Southeast. Please
enjoy this online tour of the Dunes
Club
and feel free to contact the Club
personally if you are in the area.
